{name:Todd#|#picture:3}Fixing my green polo shirt, and putting on my classic ZooYork hat, I fixed my hair, and stared at myself in the mirror. I seemed so much older now, compared to when I was at least Tommy's age. When I was six, I didn't have to worry. I didn't have to worry about anything important. Like making sure my friend got out of the house, or making sure that my feelings stayed in check constantly. As I stared at myself, I sighed, wondering how all these complicated situations fell into my life. I finally walked away from the mirror, pulling myself back into reality.
"Tommy!" I yelled as I trotted down the stairs, and landed in the dinning room of our flat on Marina Street, which overlooked Crissy Field. "Come on, were going to the beach!" I called again, hoping he'd come downstairs. I walked into the kitchen, sliding on the tiled floor over to the stainless steal fridge. I opened the door quickly, grabbing a energy drink and a muffin. Blueberries and caffeine pretty much got me through the day when I had to watch Tommy, which was almost every week day. "Toddy!" Tommy said, and ran over to me, clinging to my legs. I felt the familiar strain on my leg as I dragged him around the house, looking for my shoes. "Did you hide my shoes again?" I laughed, as he clung even tighter. I ruffled Tommy's hair, which was blonde like mine, and sighed as I had to pry him off of me. "Lemme find my shoes, and then were going to Nick's." I told him, as he ran off somewhere in our three story flat. I searched high and low for my flipflops, and finally found them. Chewed up beyond belief, they were in Pickles dog house. "Pickles..." I sighed, as I took the shoes out of the house, and tossed them in the rubbish bin. I had gone through three pairs in the last week. He must be teething. I grabbed his leash, and called for Pickles a few times. He eventually came stumbling down the stairs, tripping over his own four paws. He summersaulted to my feet, and I smirked as I clipped his leash. "Come on Tommy, were leaving." I told him as I wolfed down my food, and headed for the door.
---
About ten minutes of walking around the blocks a few times, Tommy, Pickles and I finally approached Nick's door. The place looked dark for 12 am, and I sighed. I knew what he was doing, he was mourning. He had been for the past two months and one week. And I knew I'd have to bribe him to come out of the house. I pulled my key ring, containing my house key, car key, and chest key out of my pocket. It also had a spare of Nick's house key, and Jess's. Just in case things like this happened. All three of us made our way through the hallways. His house was pretty well kept, the only ones allowed in were his parents, the maid, and I. Not even Jess, any girl now reminded him of Faye, and the pain was just too unbearable. I took everyone up the cherry-oak banester, and crept down the hall, to the third room on the left. There was Nick, looking out his window, playing with his skateboard, as usual. "Hey man," I told Nick in a soft and gentle voice. He turned and looked at me, his face not showing any emotion. He turned out to the window, and muttered a quiet 'hello.' I sighed, and let go of the leash, and Tommy clung to my leg again. "I'm going to the beach... come with us." "No," Nick shot at me, and I looked over at him. "So it was her favorite place, but you can't dwell on yourself! If you keep focusing on the bad stuff, you're going to forget all the good things." I told him, as I stood in the doorway. He sighed, his head sinking. "You're turning white, you need to get outside." I told him, as I backed up a little, and shut the door so he could get changed out of his boxers and t-shirt.
--- About ten minutes later, Nick was in his board shorts and shirt with flipflops and his hair styled. "Okay, the beach?" He asked, putting on a tiny half smile. I nodded, and called for Pickles. He came back to me, and I picked up his leash. I gave Nick a soft smile, and he just nodded, as we walked back down the stairs, and out onto the busy San Fransisco street.
----
When we eventually made it to the beach, I sighed with relief, and threw Tommy onto my shoulders. "Doesn't the sea air smell great?" I asked Nick, and he just shrugged, staring down at the ground. Before I knew it, Nick and a beautiful, beautiful blonde girl had collided, and I found the two on the ground. I stood back, giving the two space. A distraction.... this is what Nick needed

{name:Ollie#|#picture:0}Today was the first day in a whole week that I'd gotten to go somewhere out of my own free will. Lia and Odie were with me, Odie wearing a luminous green bikini with a bring pink rubber ring around her waist. I was wearing a white t-shirt with a pair of pale blue short shorts, and white flip flops - my hair was pulled back into a messy bun, with a pair of overly sized sunnies on top of my head. For the whole morning, we'd been playing on the beach, Odie, Lia and I. We'd made sandcastles, splashed in the sea, played catch and chase... basically, we loved it here already. Sure, I missed New York and everything I'd ever known - my friends, family, the places - but I did like it in California too. I didn't have any friends as of yet, which was why I'd taken to hanging out with my little sisters. But Lia was pretty mature for her age, so that made everything a little bit better.
I hadn't thought I could've got any happier. That is, until I bumped into guy and fell flat on my backside. It may be hard to understand what was so cheerful about that: it was more of the fact that the guy was extremely good looking and well dressed, was was his friend. I found myself blushing slightly as Odie and Lia burst into a fit of giggles. 'I'm so sorry,' I said quickly, getting to my feet. 'I should've looked where I was going...' It had been my fault after all. I'd been running away from Odie, and had turned to look back at when I'd smacked straight into the guy with dark hair.

{name:Nick#|#picture:1}Being forced to leave the safety of your home by your best friend is something that wouldn't make anybody happy. Todd had made it clear that I was indeed going to go to the beach with him or else get sick Pickle on me. Trust me, even though Pickle's not even a year old, he is one ferocious puppy. That added with the fact that he was currently teething, was enough to pull me out of the darkness of my room and onto the beach, which just so happened to be her favorite place. Way to make me feel better Todd.
To top it all off, a girl crashed into me. And do you know what the worst part of it all is? She looked almost exactly like Faye. At this point I was seriously considering turning around and running away, but that'd be kind of rude since I'd caused to girl to fall flat on her bottom. Before I'd even had to chance to reach out my hand to help her up, she was on her feet and had muttured an apology. ' It's okay..' I muttered, looking over at Todd who was ushering Tommy towards the waves. I was going to kill him. 'Are you alright?' She nodded, dusting off her backside. 'I'm Nick.' I smiled slightly, sticking my hand out for her to shake. 'Ollie.' She smiled back before shaking my hand for a split second. The last girl to lay a hand on me had been Faye and it felt weird, having a girl who'd I'd just met touch me, even if it was something as simple as a handshake.

{name:Todd#|#picture:3}As I was watching Tommy play with Champ, who I had formally called Pickles because he reminded me so much of my old dog who had died recently, I couldn't help but look back at the blonde girl and Nick. They seemed a little shy, both of them, and I could only imagine why.
Poor Nick, I sincerley didn't mean for that to happen, but I'm guessing it was a sign. God loved him because he finally got off his butt and decided to do something, thanks to me. I smiled at myself, watching Tommy splash around with Champ, and watched all the people walked by. As I saw the couples passing, I couldn't help but think of my previous girlfriend, Lina.
When Lina was around, I constantly would ditch Nick for her. I can't even recall how many times I told Nick I wasn't going to sit with him at lunch, because Lina wanted me to sit next to her. That had been a rough patch, but eventually when she cheated on me, Nick took me back. He'd been the supportive one when I was moping around the house, and now it was my turn. I just hoped he wouldn't get mad at me for dragging him down here. I looked over at them, and smiled as I saw the two talking - or sort of.
I decided to join Tommy in the water, forgetting all about my worries and troubles in the sand. I quickly stripped off my shirt, and threw my shoes and hat right next to my green garment. I quickly ran in, almost tackling my baby brother.

{name:Ollie#|#picture:0}I felt something like electricity shoot up my arm as soon as my skin came into contact with his, but I tried to ignore that for now... Nick, as he'd said he was called, looked a little down. I could tell by the way he was standing. 'Is that your friend?' I asked, trying to make conversation. 'Yeah, that's Todd,' he mumbled. 'Cool,' I smiled. 'Well, these two are my sisters.' I quickly turned and grabbed hold of Odie, wrapping an arm around the back of her neck. She squeeled, but didn't try and get away from me. 'This is Odie and this is Lia...' 'Hey,' Lia said, flashing Nick a flirtacious smile. I scowled as discreetly as possible at her and she soon backed off, grabbing hold of Odie's hand and pulling her away from Nick and I. 'Sorry about that,' I said, noticing that he looked uncomfortable. I suddenly felt stupid, standing there in my beach wear glory. 'Um... well, it was nice to meet you,' I said, feeling my cheeks growing hot. I hoped that I wasn't blushing. And just as I turned to go, a girl came bounding across the sand towards us, her long brown hair flowing freely behind her. She stopped when she reached Nick's side, who suddenly looked even more uncomfortable before. Maybe he wasn't too confident around girls? 'Hi!' the girl smiled. She looked at me, then looked at Nick as if to say and who might she be? I wondered if she was his girlfriend... 'Um... I'm Ollie, I was just leaving,' I said, absent mindedly picking at the side of my thumb.

{name:Jess#|#picture:2}'Oh, no! Don't leave on my account,' I said with a smile. 'Ollie' - as the girl had introduced herself - looked roughly my age. She was pretty, but I didn't recognize her at all. I stood beside them awkwardly for a moment before noticing Todd down by the water, splashing about with his younger brother. I flounced off towards the sea and stood by the edge of the water, not daring to get myself wet. 'Todd!' I yelled, before waving my arm around like a maniac.

{name:Todd#|#picture:3}I turned around when I heard my name. And I was glad I did. I looked onto the shore, and saw Jess, standing there, screaming my name in all her glory. Her chocolate brown hair flying in the wind, her rusty brown eyes wide and glowing, as usual. "Hey!" I called to her, and laughed as I ran to her, my feet having trouble lifting out of the water.
Once I finally got to Jess, I laughed, and ran up to her. I picked her up, and started swinging her around. She screamed and giggled, and I just laughed. She was getting wet from my already soaked chest, and I noticed she was laughing her head off. "Stop it, stop it!" she called, as I started to put her down. "Oh come on!" I giggled, as I held her in my arms, staring down at her. She just smirked, and I held her tight. "I know you like it anyways." I scoffed, letting my ego grow.
When I set Jess down, her navy shirt was soaked, and I laughed. "Todd! I can't believe you got me wet!" She giggled, and I smiled down at her. "You should know better, I do that to you all the time." I took her hand, not even realizing what I was doing.

{name:Nick#|#picture:1}Jess bounded up to us for a second. The next she was gone, running off towards Todd. Figures. Ollie stood there awkwardly, picking at fingers. She looked extremely bored standing there, her two sisters tickling eachother behind her. I didn't want to ask....I really didn't, but I felt I had to. 'Do you guys want to hang out with us?' I sucked in my breath, bracing myself for the 'no' I knew I was going to get.
'Sure!' Lia chirpped from behind Ollie, suddenly appearing at her side. 'We really don't want to intrude.' Ollie looked down at the sand, drawing in it with her foot. 'It's alright. I don't mind and it's a pretty good guess that Todd won't either. He'll just be busy drooling over Jess the whole time.' I snorted, crossing my arms over my chest. At least he had somebody to drool over.
'Come on Ollie!' Lia butted in, grabbing ahold of Ollie's wrist and dragging her towards the water. Odie bounded after them and I sighed, trudging behind. Todd looked up from Jess and waved, grinning. I could tell he was getting a hoot out of this.

{name:Ollie#|#picture:0}Odie instantly found a friend in the little boy who was with the guy called Todd. I guess that he was Todd's brother, as they looked quite alike. Lia took to standing quite near to Nick, so I pulled her away and shot her look that said he's way too old for you. She scowled back at me, obviously thinking she had a chance with the guy. She wasn't even 16 yet... I tried not to look too happy, and instead fixed a small smile upon my face. The girl who was called Jess smiled at me a few times, but other than that, she was too busy with Todd. It was quite awkward really.
After a while, Odie started begging me to buy her an ice cream, so I leapt at the chance and said I'd go get one from the stall that we'd seen earlier. It was a short walk away from where we were, so it would give me time to think up an excuse of why my sisters and I needed to leave all of a sudden. It wasn't that I didn't like Todd, Jess and Nick... it was more of the fact that I felt like I was intruding; pushing my way into their friendship group. And even though I knew that I wasn't, I still couldn't help but feel that way. I asked the others who wanted an ice cream, and everyone but Nick dug into their pockets for spare change. Once my own pockets were loaded with change, I turned and began to walk away, heading for the ice cream stand. 'Wait up, I'll come with you!' came a voice from behind me...

{name:Jess#|#picture:2}Todd had completely drenched me, but for some strange reason I didn't mind at all. And when he held my hand, I didn't try to snatch it away like I would've done if it had been anybody else. I couldn't help but like Todd - he was a lot nicer than all the other guys I'd gone out with.
'You got Nick out the house, huh?' I asked Todd, looking at Ollie and Nick who were talking to each other shyly. He grinned and nodded. It had been a while since I'd seen Nick - I had barely seen him all through the holidays in fact. I'd assumed he just hadn't been bothered about coming out or something.
Ollie soon went off to get ice-cream with one of her sisters and almost all of us had handed over change for her to get one for us. I sat down on the warm sand once she'd gone, stretching my legs out in front of me. Todd sat next to me, so I rested my head on his shoulder, watching the tide ahead of us.

{name:Todd#|#picture:3}I watched the waves crash onto the shore gently, and felt a new weight on my shoulder. An extremely cute wight. I glanced over a little bit, and found that Jess head was on my shoulder. I smirked a little, and looped my fingers through hers, resting our palms on the sand.
I watched as Tommy went with the blonde girl and her sister to go and get ice cream and popsicles. He was finally out of my hair for once, and I could just concentrate on my own life, without getting bothered by a pesty six year old.
"So, how's your summer been? I haven't seen you around much," I said to Jess, glancing over at her again. "It's been so-so. Went to a few places,.... stuff like that. Kept really busy," she told me, and I smiled. "Sounds like fun," I laughed, and looked out at the Pacific Ocean again. "And you Todd? What did you do this summer while I was gone?" She giggled, and I gave her a smirk. "I was stuck a home, missing you." I told her sincerely, as it was completely true.

{name:Nick#|#picture:1}Ollie asked everybody if they wanted ice cream and Todd and Jess quickly emptied their pockets, slapping some change into Ollie's hand. I debated with my self on whether I should get some or not, but decided against it in the end since ice cream had been her favorite food. Odie and Ollie trotted off towards the ice cream stand, Tommy shouting 'Wait up, I'll come with you!' before chasing after them.
It was just Todd, Jess, Lie, and me now. Well rather it was Todd and Jess. Lia and I were just cast off to the side, watching the two get all lovey dovey and it made me want to puke. Lia walked off somewhere, leaving me to watch the two in silence. Don't get me wrong, I was happy for Todd. He was finally getting the girl of his dreams.
I still felt the need to storm off somewhere. In a few seconds I had kicked off my sandals, launched my shirt over my head and waded into the water. I made my way further away from shore, until the water was up to my neck ebfore diving under.

{name:Ollie#|#picture:0}'Can't I have both?' Odie asked, tugging on my t-shirt. I simply ignored her, asked Tommy what he wanted and took my place in the queue. I hadn't thought about how I was going to carry all of the ice creams back to the others, so decided that I wouldn't have one myself, even though I'd been wanting one since the moment we'd arrived at the beach. It probably wouldn't be the best idea to have Tommy and Odie carry two ice creams each, as they'd probably end up getting dropped. But then I had a better idea. I ordered three ice creams, gave one to Odie and another to Tommy, and ushered them both over to a bench. The three of us sat down, Odie placing herself rather close to Tommy. They both giggled, and happily began to eat their ice creams. I watched them for a few moments, wishing I was the same age as them, innocent and carefree. The only thing the two of them had to worry about right now was dropping their ice creams. It wasn't long before Lia came bounding across the sand, clutching our beach ball, my bag and her own. 'I'm so bored,' she huffed, dropping everything at my feet. 'The others acted like I wasn't even there so I walked off.' I could tell that she was fighting back tears. 'We'll go home,' I said, suddenly feeling like getting ice cream was a bad idea. I couldn't help but feel a tiny bit annoyed with the three we'd just met, for blanking my sister, but she could've been exaggerating. 'What about him?' she spat, glaring down at Tommy who, along with Odie, was oblivious to what was going on. 'We'll take him back to the others and say we'd better go.' Lia shrugged, and turned away from me. I had a feeling that she was crying, but I didn't do anything about it and instead found the nearest trashcan and dropped my ice cream inside it. 'Come on,' I sighed. 'We're going back.'
After getting the ice creams for everyone else, the four of us trudged back to the beach. Well, I should say two. Odie and Tommy raced ahead, laughing and shouting as they did so. Lia linked her arm through mine, which lifted my spirits a little. 'I'm starting to hate it here,' she said quietly, looking out at the sea. 'Don't say that,' I replied, nudging her with my elbow. 'It's nice here.' 'But we don't have any friends.' 'Hey!' I said, trying to giggle a little bit. 'I'm your friend.' 'You know what I mean,' Lia sighed. She hung her head then and we walked in silence across the sand. When we neared the other three, Lia pulled herself away from me and walked a little behind me.
We found Todd and Jess sitting on the sand together, their fingers entwined and her head resting on his shoulder. It took me a moment or two to find Nick, who was swimming in the sea. 'I got the ice cream,' I said, standing directly beside Todd. It was about three seconds before he noticed I was there. 'Thanks,' he said, taking an ice cream cone from me. He handed it to Jess, and then I passed him the other. After that, he turned his attention back on her. I decided that they were together, boyfriend and girlfriend. I stood there for a moment, looking down at them, before Lia dragged me away. 'They won't notice if we just leave,' she said bitterly. 'Don't be silly, we've got to say bye,' I snapped, turning back. I then remembered I had some change to give Todd, so I walked back over to him and Jess. 'I've got your change,' I said. Neither of them said anything. Todd was too busy whispering something in Jess' ear, and she was too busy giggling. 'Um... your change,' I mumbled, starting to feel embarassed and out of place. 'Give it here,' Lia snapped, snatching the change from my outstretched hand. What she did next made me gasp. 'Here's your stupid change!' Lia threw the coins at Todd and Jess, making them both jump. Lia then turned, grabbed hold of my wrist, grabbed Odie by her rubber ring and dragged us both across the sand.
I didn't dare look back at Todd and Jess, for fear of them shouting at me. Instead, I allowed my 15 year old sister to march me away from them like a mother dragging her disgraced child back home. I doubted I'd ever see Todd, Jess and Nick again, which was probably better in the long run...

{name:Jess#|#picture:2}I had barely been paying attenion to my surroundings when suddenly a handful of change came flying into Todd's and my face. I looked up to see Lia - Ollie's sister - standing there with a look that made me think she would kill someone in a moment. She then stomped over, pulling Ollie and Odie with her. Nobody spoke for a moment - it had happened so quickly and suddenly that it took us a moment to work out what had actually happened. 'Are you okay?' Todd asked eventually, a confused look on his face. 'Yeah, no damage done,' I sighed, 'What the hell was that about?!' Todd shrugged, still looking puzzled. Part of me felt terrible - what had I done to provoke a little girl into doing that? I probably hadn't been the most friendly person in the world - I'd been concentrating on Todd. Todd and nothing else.
I sighed again. Nick had come out of the sea by now - and he looked as confused as I felt. 'Ugh, lets just go,' I muttered. I took Todd's hand again and began to walk across the sand and off the beach, Nick trailing behind us.
